Network Configurations
All MetaSystems products are based on a modular architecture, and all systems are ready for being networked. Due to this flexible concept various configurations for different demands are available. The information provided on this page is meant to help making the decision for the best multi-user workspace configuration.
Available System Components
The following section gives an overview of the system components that can be combined to build a multi-user network. A little microscope icon indicates, that the respective system requires a microscope and includes a camera. Please note that optionally a relocation system ReloSys may also be equipped with a camera. The Ikaros / Isis full system and the Metafer slide scanning platform can also be used as stand-alone systems.

A complete system with microscope, camera and computer, capable to be set up as stand-alone system or as part of a larger network. Images can be captured, modified and analyzed, patient data can be entered and retrieved. In smaller networks a workstation may also act as a server. Ikaros / Isis Analysis Workstation |

A computer with Ikaros or Isis software, but without camera or microscope. The workstation provides full image analysis (karyotyping, image processing etc.) and patient database capabilities. However, the raw images have to be provided by an external source like i.e. a capture station. This workstation can be equipped with any of the following software modules: |
Ikaros / Isis Capture Station |

As counterpart to the above mentioned workstation, the capture station provides the possibility to capture and store images from the microscope. Basic image processing can be done, but for further analysis the image has to be opened by a full system or by a workstation. The capture station can be equipped with: |
Metafer Slide Scanning Platform |

Platform for the automated scanning of up to 8 slides. The platform consists of a motorized microscope, a high resolution camera and a motorized stage, all connected to a PC running the Metafer software. A Metafer platform can be set up as stand-alone system or as part of a larger network. It may also be used as server. The slide scanning platform can be equipped with any of the following software modules: |
ReloSys Relocation Station |

System for the relocation of objects from files previously generated by a Metafer station. ReloSys stations are equipped with a one-slide motorized stage and may be connected to a variety of manual and motorized microscopes. Optionally ReloSys may have a camera and Ikaros or Isis installed. ReloSys can be equpped with the following software modules: |
Slide Feeder |

Unit for the automated exchange of 8-slides trays used for the Metafer scanning platform. The slide feeder enhances the capacities of Metafer to 80 slides. The slide feeder does not require extra software. |
Network Server |

 |
A high performance computer with large storage devices and archiving drives, used for the storage of images, patient data and configuration files for a larger network with many workstations. The network server usually is not used as workstation. Typically the archiving software MetaArchive is running on the server. |
Ikaros / Isis Database Software |

Software for patient data management. Though the patient database is part of any Ikaros and Isis system, with the database station the management of patient data can be outsourced, i.e. to the secretary office. The database station runs a database maintenance software only. The database software can be installed to any office computer. |
Ikaros / Isis Review Software |

Software for the remote review of images. The review station runs a review software only. The review software can be installed to any office computer. |
Metafer Review Software |

Software for remote review of files generated by the Metafer scanning platform. The review station runs a review software only. The review software can be installed to any office computer. |
Example Configurations
Due to the flexible architecture of MetaSystems products, an unlimited number of multi-user network configurations is possible.
